Conclusion of an M&A agreement with Blossom Bio Energy Sdn. Bhd. (Malaysia)

Our company (head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo) concluded an M&A agreement to acquire a 50% stake in the Malaysian PKS collection and sales company Blossom Bio Energy Sdn. Bhd., and our company’s representative Hideo Harada was appointed as chairman of BBE on April 25, 2019.

Palm kernel shells (PKS) are attracting attention as a new biomass fuel that efficiently generates heat and does not emit CO2.
Malaysia produces palm kernels widely for food and industry, and is known globally as a prominent producer of palm kernels.

The spread of biomass power plants in Japan is expected to continue due to the introduction of feed-in tariffs (FITs) for renewable energy, so the demand for PKS is estimated to grow further. Therefore, we concluded this M&A agreement after determining that the most effective step would be the establishment of a system for steady supply of PKS to Japan.

In 2020, the steady yearly supply of approximately 200,000 tons of PKS to Japan will become possible, and this figure will increase to approximately 400,000 tons in 2021.
Going forward, we will continue to put our efforts toward the Renewable Energy Business, thus contributing to the creation of a recycling-based society while reducing environmental burden on society.
